The Zoological Park Organization (ZPO) is joining forces with the Vietnam Zoos Association to extend the Eastern Sarus Crane inhabitants in Vietnam.
Through Gift of Understanding (MoU), the collaboration may even involve the People’s Committee of Dong Thap Province in Vietnam and the International Crane Foundation.
Since 2009, ZPO has been reintroducing Eastern Sarus Cranes to Thailand by breeding and releasing them into the natural wetlands of Buriram province, reported Bangkok Post.
Attapon Srihayun, director-general of the ZPO, said…
“We are striving to deliver them back from the brink of extinction into their natural habitat so they proceed to fly in the skies.”
Attapon expressed gratitude to all those concerned within the effort, together with scientists and workers at the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant, Mahidol University, as nicely as native businesses, non-public sector workers, and people in Buriram.
With Steal in Vietnam still vulnerable to extinction, the MoU goals to replenish their numbers in Tram Chim National Park.
The partnership will involve breeding and transferring captive-reared juvenile Sarus Cranes from Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo for launch in Vietnam. Additionally, it will concentrate on training workers, creating captive-rearing facilities, and establishing a launch and monitoring system.
The Eastern Sarus Crane population in Vietnam is estimated to be between 1,000 and 1,500 individuals, making it some of the essential populations in Southeast Asia.
The species is taken into account to be regionally and globally threatened, with the principle threats being the loss of habitat, hunting and poaching, and human disturbance.
The Vietnamese government has taken measures to guard the species, together with the creation of a protected area in the Mekong Delta, and the implementation of a nationwide motion plan for the conservation of the species..
