Amarinth has delivered two separate orders of API 610 pumps, together worth £1.2 million, for the West Qurna-2 expansion project in Iraq.

West Qurna-2, positioned roughly 65 km north-west of the seaport city of Basra, is likely one of the world’s largest onshore oilfields. The expansion venture is expected to extend the oilfield’s production capacity from the current four hundred,000 barrels oil per day (bpd) to 480,000 bpd, with a target to attain a total production capacity of 800,000 bpd by 2025.
The first order, from Cannon Artes, was for seven tremendous duplex API 610 OH1 pumps. The bespoke designed pumps are for a low shear software and required specialist Plan 53B seal assist techniques incorporating air cooled seals and stainless-steel accumulators. All electrical items were IECEx certified for use in an ATEX Zone 2 hazardous area. The massive pumps had impellers of over 500mm diameter and the casings, that weigh 1.5 tonnes, have been forged in a foundry within the UK. Plan 53B seal assist systems have been designed to fit inside a constrained footprint and as a result of the pumps have been destined for an ATEX Zone 2 space, the motors, seal support techniques, and instrumentation were IECEx licensed. Witness testing and inspection was undertaken by Bureau Veritas and a full legalised Iraq documentation package was delivered with the pumps. Delivery was achieved on a brief 38-weeks, despite the global Covid-19 pandemic.
